MAG Foundation, Inc.

The Medical Association of Georgia Foundation was established in 1967 as a non-profit, non-stock corporation to enable physicians to support projects vitally affecting scientific medicine and public health. The vision of the volunteer physicians Board of Trustees is to be a leader in philanthropic efforts representing physicians.

Today, the Foundation provides an opportunity to showcase a true philanthropic spirit of physicians who desire to give back to the communities and the profession they serve. Each contribution allows the Foundation to grow and better educate the patient population of Georgia for healthier communities and a healthier Georgia as well as enhance the integrity of the profession and the sanctity of the physician-patient relationship.

Support the Foundation

Annual Appeal: The Foundation invites you to participate in its Annual Appeal. This campaign helps support the programs and activities that advance and fulfill the mission of the MAG Foundation.

General Donations: When making a contribution to your charities, please consider a gift to the MAG Foundation.

Distressed Physician Fund: Contributions are used to assist physicians and their spouses who experience financial hardship caused by natural disasters or other circumstances beyond their control. The fund is independent of the general fund, which is governed by the Foundation’s defined objectives.

Memorial Giving: Memorial and tribute giving provides a way to honor or remember a family member, a cherished colleague, a friend or a patient.

Major Gifts: The Foundation seeks major gifts to create a lasting remembrance of special individuals while helping others. If you would like to establish a name fund, please call 678.303.9254.

Planned Gifts: These endowments provide the opportunity to fulfill philanthropic wishes and may enhance financial security for yourself and/or your loved ones. An endowment gift can support a purpose or program as designated by the donor and only the interest earnings are used. A donor also can create unrestricted endowments.

An Annuity Gift: Gift annuities offer a significantly higher return than taxable investments. For a specific contribution, your money is invested in an annuity. In return, you receive a lifetime income. Annuity gifts are an ideal investment vehicle for seniors. Depending on your age, a substantial portion of the annuity income is tax-free. The MAG Foundation offers the exclusive Tax Smart Annuity™ plan. It is safety-insured, has a high yield, can pay lifetime income for two people and gets assets to your heirs tax-free. Programs Supported by the Foundation

Georgia Physicians Leadership Academy: Many physicians are ready to address the critical issues in health care delivery. The GPLA will provide the leadership skills and professional network to make a difference through organized medicine.

The GPLA is a MAG Foundation program designed and implemented by the Medical Association of Georgia in 2007. Overall, this leadership experience will benefit and educate physicians who want to improve health care delivery for their patients, communities and the medical profession.

Interactive classes will enable physicians to enhance their leadership skills and develop continuing relationships with colleagues. This in-depth, year-long program includes six sessions (three days will be scheduled during the workweek).

The William R. Dancy Student Loan Fund: For more than 35 years, the Medical Association of Georgia Foundation has been helping medical students fund their dreams of becoming physicians. Our affordable loans are here to help ease the pressure of funding a medical education.

The Student Education Fund was established in 1930 at the suggestion of Dr. William R. Dancy of Savannah. In 1956, the name was officially changed to the William R. Dancy, M.D. Student Loan Fund. In 1969, the monies for the loan fund were transferred to the MAG Foundation, Inc.

Today, the William R. Dancy, M.D. Student Loan Fund assists Georgia residents who are deemed to need financial assistance to complete their medical education in an accredited medical school located in Georgia.

The selection of loan recipients is made by a five-member loan committee of the MAG Alliance. The committee meets bi-annually and includes members of MAG and the MAG Alliance.

For information on eligibility requirements, please call 678.303.9284 or e-mail kmccall@mag.org.

To date, the Foundation has supported 52 medical students in their pursuit of becoming physician leaders.
